Guangzhou - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has just introduced its first electric SUV. This is an electric car marketed in China by GAC Mitsubishi Motors Co., Ltd. (GMMC), a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Motors in China.
Mitsubishi's electric SUV is the Mitsubishi Airtrek. The Mitsubishi electric car was launched at Auto Guangzhou.
"We named the new electric SUV Airtrek so that many customers can enjoy adventurous, active driving with this pure EV, which reaches a maximum driving range of around 520 km while emitting zero CO2 while moving. We hope the all new Airtrek will help expand customer horizons in China, in where environmental initiatives are accelerated with new energy vehicles, especially EVs," said Takao Kato, President and Chief Executive Officer of MMC.
The all-new Airtrek was developed based on the concept of "e-cruising SUV", with the "e" representing the three keywords "electric" (electric vehicle), "expanding" (expanding life with a car), and "expressive".
From the front view, the Mitsubishi Airtrek adopts a typical Mitsubishi design with the Dynamic Shield design language. The Dynamic Shield design language is applied to the latest Mitsubishi cars, including the Mitsubishi Xpander to the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
The Mitsubishi Airtrek style presents MMC's overall design identity, starting from the front face of the Dynamic Shield to the hexagon motif on the trunk door. Mitsubishi claims the Airtrek electric SUV embodies the maneuverability and high stability that characterize Mitsubishi vehicles.
The interior is spacious, featuring a horizontally themed instrument panel that offers a wide field of view and makes it easy to understand the car's position. To create an upscale feel, soft lining is applied to the parts that passengers touch, and stitching is used in every detail.
With its long wheelbase and wide overall dimensions, the Mitsubishi Airtrek also offers ample interior space for the whole family to drive comfortably.
Mitsubishi Airtrek is equipped with a large capacity battery of 70 kWh. With this large battery, this electric car can reach a distance of up to 520 km on a single charge.
The battery is installed in the center of the floor so as to achieve an ideal front-rear weight distribution with a low center of gravity. The electric motor, inverter and reduction drive are integrated into one lightweight and compact unit. This is combined with a drive system that produces high power and torque. Mitsubishi claims, Airtrek presents the characteristics of a powerful but smooth ride, with agile handling.
